Utah Day 3: Arches

We were up early and on the road. We left fabulous I-70 at Cisco (a crumbling ghost town) and took 128 along the Colorado River (already practicing for the Grand Canyon) into Moab.

We filled up with gas and bought some water (none available in the park) and headed for Arches National Park. Mom stayed in the car when we stopped at Park Avenue, but when we saw it was paved and not very far to the look out, Steve when back for her.

We didn't stop at EVERY overlook--Steve was driving--but we hit a lot more than I expected.

Sand Dune Arch

Lunch at the Devil's Garden Trailhead picnic ground. It was so windy we had to hold down the food as we ate. Mom lost a couple potato chips even though she was trying to eat them straight fromt he bag. Temps were in the low 90s so the wind felt good.

Tunnel Arch

Pine Tree Arch

The North Window

Turret Arch

Double Arch. By this time we were pretty hot and tired and Steve and Mom stayed in the car with the aircon on, but even that was too hot so this is as close as I went.

From La Sal Mountains overlook.

Lots of cars and people. We're wondering when the off season is. definitely not now even if the kids are back in school. We're up to 37 states in the license plate game. National Park parking lots attract people from all over.

When we got to our hotel in Moab, I took a shower to wash off the salt. I felt crunchy.

We had supper in town at a pasta place with outdoor tables. We ordered their lasagna special, but only 2 and added a large Cesar salad. We didn't eat all the lasagne and shouldn't have eaten as much as we did, but it was delicious.

This is just a a sampling of the 80 pictures I took. Virtually all of them were fabulous, not because of my skill but because of the setting and the weather. We are not in line for either a hurricane or forest fires.
