More of the same. Well, this morning it was more of the same—flat dry eastern CO. The highlight was when Mom spotted a field of bison. I finished the afghan I was knitting. Then just before 2PM we passed Denver and suddenly we were headed up into the mountains.
Spectacular even from the Interstate. We were making good enough time that we decided to take a byway--91 up to Leadville and back down 24. The aspens are at peak, fabulously golden in the brilliant sunshine. If we had it to do over (which hopefully someday we will), I recommend 24 up and 91 back to I-70 because that way 90+% of the pullouts would be on the right. As it was, we didn’t stop and all my pictures were through the windshield with bug splats all over or reflections on the glass.
We did stop at a fishing place, but there I was shooting into the sun and had to crop out my fingers. ;-)
Steve brought along a bottle of Windex and a whole roll of paper towels. I think he expects to do a lot of this.
Despite the clean windshield I didn’t attempt any from-a-moving-vehicle shots coming through Glenwood Canyon. Google it and let your jaw drop. How can an Interstate be this spectacular? I found myself thinking of the barrier that the Rockies were to the pioneers, yet we cross them in an afternoon with extra time for a side trip along the way.
We are settled at the Best Western in Grand Junction, CO. Tomorrow we arrive in Utah. There will be less driving and more sightseeing in Arches National Park. Can’t wait!
So smart to bring Windex so you can always count on a clear view out the window!
